Kepler-296 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.50 solar masses, 3,740 K, 0.48 solar radii). The system hosts 5 confirmed planets on orbits ranging from 5.8 days to 63.3 days. At least one planet may receive an Earth-like flux of starlight, placing this system on the short list of potentially habitable worlds worth detailed atmospheric study. Mutual gravitational tugs between the planets can slowly reshape their orbits, preserving clues to the system's assembly. Kepler-296 c orbits well inside Earth's distance from the Sun. Repeated transit observations constrain the planet's orbital inclination and stellar density, anchoring the system's physical scale.
