55 Cnc is a Sun-like G-type star (about 1.01 solar masses, 5,198 K, 0.98 solar radii), 41 light-years from Earth. 55 Cancri is a nearby five-planet system whose innermost world, 55 Cnc e, is a lava super-Earth and a benchmark target for JWST. 55 Cancri e, one of five known planets, may be a carbon-rich super-Earth with a possible lava hemisphere — one of the most exotic rocky worlds in the nearby exoplanet catalogue. 55 Cnc e is a 8.0-Earth-mass planet, with an orbital period of 17.7 hours, at 0.015 AU from its star, discovered in 2004 via radial velocity. Mutual gravitational tugs between the planets can slowly reshape their orbits, preserving clues to the system's assembly.
