HR 8799 is a bright A-type star (about 1.51 solar masses, 7,400 K), 134 light-years from Earth. HR 8799 was the first system with multiple planets imaged directly. The young A-type star, just 30 million years old, still glows in infrared light, making its widely separated gas giants bright enough to photograph. HR 8799 e is a 10.0-Jupiter-mass companion, at 16.4 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 1,150 K, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.15), discovered in 2010 via direct imaging.
