Kepler-46 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.90 solar masses, 5,155 K, 0.94 solar radii), 777 light-years from Earth. Kepler-46 d is a planet with 1.6 Earth radii, with an orbital period of 6.8 days, at 0.067 AU from its star, discovered in 2014 via transit. Kepler-46 b is a 6.00-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 33.6 days, at 0.197 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 543 K, discovered in 2012 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry.
