HD 142 is a Sun-like F-type star (about 1.21 solar masses, 6,245 K), 26.2 light-years from Earth. HD 142 A d is a 0.26-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 108 days, at 0.474 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.13), discovered in 2022 via radial velocity. HD 142 b is a 1.25-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 351 days, at 1.039 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.16), discovered in 2001 via radial velocity. Mutual gravitational tugs between the planets can slowly reshape their orbits, preserving clues to the system's assembly.
