47 UMa is a Sun-like G-type star (about 1.06 solar masses, 5,872 K, 1.21 solar radii), 13.8 light-years from Earth. 47 Ursae Majoris was among the first Sun-like stars shown to host Jupiter-like planets on orbits of a few years, rather than a hot Jupiter. 47 UMa b is a 2.53-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 2.95 years, at 2.100 AU from its star, discovered in 1996 via radial velocity. 47 UMa c is a 0.54-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 6.55 years, at 3.600 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.10), discovered in 2001 via radial velocity. Mutual gravitational tugs between the planets can slowly reshape their orbits, preserving clues to the system's assembly.
