WASP-8 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 1.34 solar masses, 5,600 K, 1.03 solar radii), 90.0 light-years from Earth. WASP-8 c is a 9.45-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 11.8 years, at 5.280 AU from its star, discovered in 2013 via radial velocity. WASP-8 b is a 2.54-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 8.2 days, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.31), discovered in 2010 via transit. The inner world is a hot Jupiter — a gas giant hugging its star at a fraction of Mercury's distance — a class that forced astronomers to rethink how giant planets form and migrate inward.
