TOI-216 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.77 solar masses, 5,026 K, 0.75 solar radii), 178 light-years from Earth. TOI-216.02 is a 0.06-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 17.2 days, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.16), discovered in 2019 via transit. TOI-216.01 is a 0.56-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 34.5 days, discovered in 2019 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry.
