Kepler-57 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.86 solar masses, 5,188 K, 0.83 solar radii), 644 light-years from Earth. Kepler-57 b is a 0.08-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 5.7 days, discovered in 2012 via transit. Kepler-57 c is a 6.9-Earth-mass planet, with an orbital period of 11.6 days, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.07), discovered in 2012 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry.
