Kepler-462 is a bright A-type star (about 1.59 solar masses, 7,500 K, 1.57 solar radii), 597 light-years from Earth. Kepler-462 b is a 0.17-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 84.7 days, discovered in 2016 via transit. Kepler-462 c is a 6.0-Earth-mass planet, with an orbital period of 208 days, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.11), discovered in 2018 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry.
