Kepler-417 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.90 solar masses, 5,177 K, 0.81 solar radii), 974 light-years from Earth. Kepler-417 b is a 11.0-Earth-mass planet, with an orbital period of 12.3 days, discovered in 2014 via transit. Kepler-417 c is a confirmed exoplanet, with an orbital period of 15.9 days, discovered in 2014 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry. Mutual gravitational tugs between the planets can slowly reshape their orbits, preserving clues to the system's assembly.
