K2-146 is a cool M-dwarf (about 0.33 solar masses, 3,385 K, 0.33 solar radii), 79.3 light-years from Earth. K2-146 b is a 5.8-Earth-mass planet, with an orbital period of 2.6 days, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.13), discovered in 2018 via transit. K2-146 c is a 7.5-Earth-mass planet, with an orbital period of 4.0 days, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.07), discovered in 2019 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry.
