HD 217786 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 1.14 solar masses, 5,966 K), 55.5 light-years from Earth. HD 217786 c is a 7.3-Earth-mass planet, with an orbital period of 2.5 days, at 0.038 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.40), discovered in 2022 via radial velocity. HD 217786 b is a 13.9-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 3.56 years, at 2.446 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.31), discovered in 2011 via radial velocity. Mutual gravitational tugs between the planets can slowly reshape their orbits, preserving clues to the system's assembly.
