GJ 687 is a cool M-dwarf (about 0.40 solar masses, 3,413 K), 4.5 light-years from Earth. GJ 687 b is a 0.05-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 38.1 days, at 0.163 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.17), discovered in 2014 via radial velocity. GJ 687 c is a 0.05-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 1.99 years, at 1.165 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.40), discovered in 2020 via radial velocity. Mutual gravitational tugs between the planets can slowly reshape their orbits, preserving clues to the system's assembly.
