bet Pic is a bright A-type star (about 1.79 solar masses, 8,039 K), 63 light-years from Earth. Beta Pictoris combines a bright debris disk with two directly imaged giant planets; Beta Pic b was the first exoplanet whose rotation was measured. bet Pic c is a 8.70-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 3.29 years, at 2.700 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.31), discovered in 2019 via radial velocity. bet Pic b is a 8.70-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 23.8 years, at 10.1 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.10), discovered in 2008 via direct imaging. Mutual gravitational tugs between the planets can slowly reshape their orbits, preserving clues to the system's assembly.
