XEST 17-036 is a cool M-dwarf (about 0.26 solar masses, 3,551 K), 159 light-years from Earth. KOINTREAU-1 b is a 10.6-Jupiter-mass companion, at 690 AU from its star, discovered in 2026 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. KOINTREAU-1 b orbits far from its host star. At 10.6 Jupiter masses, the companion lies near the dividing line between giant planets and brown dwarfs. The 2026 announcement placed XEST 17-036 among the thousands of confirmed planetary systems mapped since the first exoplanet detections.
