Wolf 503 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.69 solar masses, 4,716 K, 0.69 solar radii), 44.5 light-years from Earth. Wolf 503 b is a 6.3-Earth-mass planet, with an orbital period of 6.0 days, at 0.057 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 790 K, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.41), discovered in 2018 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry.
