WISEP J121756.91+162640.2 A is a cool M-dwarf (about 0.03 solar masses, 575 K, 0.09 solar radii). WISEP J121756.91+162640.2 A b is a 22.0-Jupiter-mass companion, at 8.000 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 450 K, discovered in 2012 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. WISEP J121756.91+162640.2 A b orbits far from its host star. The planet's large radius (10.5 Earth radii) indicates a bloated atmosphere heated by intense stellar radiation.
