Wendelstein-2 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.73 solar masses, 4,591 K, 0.66 solar radii), 566 light-years from Earth. Wendelstein-2 b is a 0.73-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 1.8 days, at 0.023 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 2,470 K, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.06), discovered in 2020 via transit. The inner world is a hot Jupiter — a gas giant hugging its star at a fraction of Mercury's distance — a class that forced astronomers to rethink how giant planets form and migrate inward.
