WD 0806-661 is a bright A-type star (about 0.60 solar masses, 10,393 K), 19.2 light-years from Earth. WD 0806-661 b is a 7.00-Jupiter-mass companion, and an equilibrium temperature near 357 K, discovered in 2011 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. The planet's large radius (12.1 Earth radii) indicates a bloated atmosphere heated by intense stellar radiation. At 7.0 Jupiter masses, the companion lies near the dividing line between giant planets and brown dwarfs.
