VHS J125601.92-125723.9 is a cool M-dwarf (about 0.07 solar masses, 2,620 K). VHS J125601.92-125723.9 b is a 16.0-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 15,880 years, at 350 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 1,194 K, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.68), discovered in 2015 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. The planet's marked eccentricity suggests past scattering events or perturbations from unseen companions.
