V830 Tau is an orange K-type dwarf (about 1.00 solar masses, 4,250 K, 2.00 solar radii), 130 light-years from Earth. V830 Tau b is a 0.70-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 4.9 days, at 0.057 AU from its star, discovered in 2016 via radial velocity. The inner world is a hot Jupiter — a gas giant hugging its star at a fraction of Mercury's distance — a class that forced astronomers to rethink how giant planets form and migrate inward. V830 Tau b orbits well inside Earth's distance from the Sun.
