ROXs 42 B is a cool M-dwarf (about 1.00 solar masses, 3,433 K), 144 light-years from Earth. ROXs 42 B b is a 9.00-Jupiter-mass companion, at 157 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 1,975 K, discovered in 2013 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. ROXs 42 B b orbits far from its host star. With an equilibrium temperature around 1,975 K, the dayside atmosphere is hot enough to vaporise many common minerals.
