ROXs 12 is a cool M-dwarf (about 0.87 solar masses, 3,850 K), 137 light-years from Earth. ROXs 12 b is a 16.0-Jupiter-mass companion, at 210 AU from its star, discovered in 2013 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. ROXs 12 b orbits far from its host star. At 16.0 Jupiter masses, the companion lies near the dividing line between giant planets and brown dwarfs.
