Ross 458 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.56 solar masses, 3,965 K), 11.5 light-years from Earth. Ross 458 c is a 6.00-Jupiter-mass companion, at 1,100 AU from its star, discovered in 2010 via direct imaging. Direct imaging revealed these planets because they are young, massive, and widely separated from their star, appearing bright in infrared light against the glare. Ross 458 c orbits far from its host star. The planet's large radius (14.0 Earth radii) indicates a bloated atmosphere heated by intense stellar radiation.
