PSR J2322-2650 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 1.40 solar masses, 5,778 K), 230 light-years from Earth. PSR J2322-2650 b is a 0.79-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 7.8 hours, at 0.010 AU from its star, discovered in 2017 via pulsar timing. The inner world is a hot Jupiter — a gas giant hugging its star at a fraction of Mercury's distance — a class that forced astronomers to rethink how giant planets form and migrate inward. PSR J2322-2650 b skims its star closer than Mercury orbits the Sun.
