OGLE-2019-BLG-0679L b is a 3.34-Jupiter-mass companion, at 6.990 AU from its star, discovered in 2023 via microlensing. Microlensing detections occur when a foreground star's gravity briefly magnifies a background source, revealing planets that are otherwise too faint and distant to observe directly. OGLE-2019-BLG-0679L b orbits far from its host star. At roughly 5,630 light-years, OGLE-2019-BLG-0679L lies far beyond the nearest stars yet remains reachable to large survey telescopes. Microlensing events are fleeting, but they uniquely probe cold, distant planets that other methods rarely detect.
