OGLE-2018-BLG-1367L is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.28 solar masses, 5,778 K), 5,370 light-years from Earth. OGLE-2018-BLG-1367L b is a 0.95-Jupiter-mass companion, discovered in 2022 via microlensing. Microlensing detections occur when a foreground star's gravity briefly magnifies a background source, revealing planets that are otherwise too faint and distant to observe directly. At roughly 5,370 light-years, OGLE-2018-BLG-1367L lies far beyond the nearest stars yet remains reachable to large survey telescopes. Microlensing events are fleeting, but they uniquely probe cold, distant planets that other methods rarely detect.
