OGLE-2018-BLG-0740L is a Sun-like G-type star (about 1.00 solar masses, 5,912 K), 3,200 light-years from Earth. OGLE-2018-BLG-0740L b is a 4.80-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 15.0 years, at 5.000 AU from its star, discovered in 2019 via microlensing. Microlensing detections occur when a foreground star's gravity briefly magnifies a background source, revealing planets that are otherwise too faint and distant to observe directly. OGLE-2018-BLG-0740L b circles in the outer system, comparable to the Jupiter region. At roughly 3,200 light-years, OGLE-2018-BLG-0740L lies far beyond the nearest stars yet remains reachable to large survey telescopes.
