OGLE-2015-BLG-0051L is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.10 solar masses, 5,778 K), 8,200 light-years from Earth. OGLE-2015-BLG-0051L b is a 0.72-Jupiter-mass companion, at 0.730 AU from its star, discovered in 2016 via microlensing. Microlensing detections occur when a foreground star's gravity briefly magnifies a background source, revealing planets that are otherwise too faint and distant to observe directly. OGLE-2015-BLG-0051L b circles its star within the inner habitable zone. At roughly 8,200 light-years, OGLE-2015-BLG-0051L lies far beyond the nearest stars yet remains reachable to large survey telescopes.
