OGLE-2012-BLG-0358L is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.02 solar masses, 5,778 K), 1,760 light-years from Earth. OGLE-2012-BLG-0358L b is a 1.85-Jupiter-mass companion, at 0.870 AU from its star, discovered in 2013 via microlensing. Microlensing detections occur when a foreground star's gravity briefly magnifies a background source, revealing planets that are otherwise too faint and distant to observe directly. OGLE-2012-BLG-0358L b circles its star within the inner habitable zone. At roughly 1,760 light-years, OGLE-2012-BLG-0358L lies far beyond the nearest stars yet remains reachable to large survey telescopes.
