OGLE-2008-BLG-092L is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.71 solar masses, 5,778 K), 8,100 light-years from Earth. OGLE-2008-BLG-092L b is a 0.18-Jupiter-mass companion, at 15.0 AU from its star, discovered in 2014 via microlensing. Microlensing detections occur when a foreground star's gravity briefly magnifies a background source, revealing planets that are otherwise too faint and distant to observe directly. OGLE-2008-BLG-092L b orbits far from its host star. At roughly 8,100 light-years, OGLE-2008-BLG-092L lies far beyond the nearest stars yet remains reachable to large survey telescopes. Microlensing events are fleeting, but they uniquely probe cold, distant planets that other methods rarely detect.
