MOA-2013-BLG-605L is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.02 solar masses, 5,778 K), 850 light-years from Earth. MOA-2013-BLG-605L b is a 3.2-Earth-mass planet, at 0.930 AU from its star, discovered in 2016 via microlensing. Microlensing detections occur when a foreground star's gravity briefly magnifies a background source, revealing planets that are otherwise too faint and distant to observe directly. MOA-2013-BLG-605L b circles its star within the inner habitable zone. Its low mass makes MOA-2013-BLG-605L b a Neptune- or super-Earth-class world rather than a gas giant. At roughly 850 light-years, MOA-2013-BLG-605L lies far beyond the nearest stars yet remains reachable to large survey telescopes.
