MOA-2011-BLG-291L is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.15 solar masses, 5,778 K), 4,400 light-years from Earth. MOA-2011-BLG-291L b is a 0.06-Jupiter-mass companion, at 0.690 AU from its star, discovered in 2018 via microlensing. Microlensing detections occur when a foreground star's gravity briefly magnifies a background source, revealing planets that are otherwise too faint and distant to observe directly. MOA-2011-BLG-291L b circles its star within the inner habitable zone. Its low mass makes MOA-2011-BLG-291L b a Neptune- or super-Earth-class world rather than a gas giant. At roughly 4,400 light-years, MOA-2011-BLG-291L lies far beyond the nearest stars yet remains reachable to large survey telescopes.
