MOA-2011-BLG-262L is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.11 solar masses, 5,778 K), 7,200 light-years from Earth. MOA-2011-BLG-262L b is a 0.05-Jupiter-mass companion, at 0.950 AU from its star, discovered in 2014 via microlensing. Microlensing detections occur when a foreground star's gravity briefly magnifies a background source, revealing planets that are otherwise too faint and distant to observe directly. MOA-2011-BLG-262L b circles its star within the inner habitable zone. Its low mass makes MOA-2011-BLG-262L b a Neptune- or super-Earth-class world rather than a gas giant. At roughly 7,200 light-years, MOA-2011-BLG-262L lies far beyond the nearest stars yet remains reachable to large survey telescopes.
