LTT 9779 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 1.02 solar masses, 5,443 K, 0.95 solar radii), 80.4 light-years from Earth. LTT 9779 b is a 0.09-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 19.0 hours, at 0.017 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 1,978 K, discovered in 2020 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry. LTT 9779 b skims its star closer than Mercury orbits the Sun.
