LHS 3844 is a cool M-dwarf (about 0.15 solar masses, 3,080 K, 0.19 solar radii), 14.9 light-years from Earth. LHS 3844 b is a bare-rock planet with no detected atmosphere; its phase curve shows heat coming directly off the surface. LHS 3844 b is a 2.4-Earth-mass planet, with an orbital period of 11.1 hours, at 0.006 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 816 K, discovered in 2019 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry. LHS 3844 b skims its star closer than Mercury orbits the Sun.
