KMT-2018-BLG-1292L is a Sun-like G-type star (about 1.09 solar masses, 5,778 K), 3,460 light-years from Earth. KMT-2018-BLG-1292L b is a 4.42-Jupiter-mass companion, at 6.030 AU from its star, discovered in 2020 via microlensing. Microlensing detections occur when a foreground star's gravity briefly magnifies a background source, revealing planets that are otherwise too faint and distant to observe directly. KMT-2018-BLG-1292L b orbits far from its host star. At roughly 3,460 light-years, KMT-2018-BLG-1292L lies far beyond the nearest stars yet remains reachable to large survey telescopes. Microlensing events are fleeting, but they uniquely probe cold, distant planets that other methods rarely detect.
