Kepler-99 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.79 solar masses, 4,782 K, 0.73 solar radii), 208 light-years from Earth. Kepler-99 b is a 6.2-Earth-mass planet, with an orbital period of 4.6 days, discovered in 2014 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry. At 1.5 Earth radii, Kepler-99 b is a compact world comparable in size to rocky planets in our Solar System. Its low mass makes Kepler-99 b a Neptune- or super-Earth-class world rather than a gas giant.
