Kepler-849 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 1.26 solar masses, 5,950 K, 1.82 solar radii), 822 light-years from Earth. Kepler-849 b is a 0.94-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 1.08 years, at 1.137 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 363 K, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.08), discovered in 2016 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry. Kepler-849 b orbits at roughly the distance of Mars from the Sun.
