Kepler-702 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.90 solar masses, 5,419 K, 0.86 solar radii), 992 light-years from Earth. Kepler-702 b is a planet with 9.2 Earth radii, with an orbital period of 10.5 days, discovered in 2016 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry. The planet's large radius (9.2 Earth radii) indicates a bloated atmosphere heated by intense stellar radiation. At roughly 992 light-years, Kepler-702 lies far beyond the nearest stars yet remains reachable to large survey telescopes.
