Kepler-643 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 1.00 solar masses, 4,908 K, 2.52 solar radii), 1,064 light-years from Earth. Kepler-643 b is a planet with 10.2 Earth radii, with an orbital period of 16.3 days, discovered in 2016 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry. The planet's large radius (10.2 Earth radii) indicates a bloated atmosphere heated by intense stellar radiation. At roughly 1,064 light-years, Kepler-643 lies far beyond the nearest stars yet remains reachable to large survey telescopes.
