Kepler-453 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.94 solar masses, 5,527 K, 0.83 solar radii), 443 light-years from Earth. Kepler-453 b is a circumbinary giant that transits only a fraction of the time, as precession moves it across the stellar disks. Kepler-453 b is a 0.05-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 241 days, at 0.790 AU from its star, discovered in 2015 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry. Kepler-453 b circles its star within the inner habitable zone. Its low mass makes Kepler-453 b a Neptune- or super-Earth-class world rather than a gas giant.
