Kepler-442 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.61 solar masses, 4,402 K, 0.60 solar radii), 366 light-years from Earth. Kepler-442 b is among the most Earth-like planets found by Kepler, a near-Earth-sized world in the habitable zone of a K dwarf. Kepler-442 b is a planet with 1.3 Earth radii, with an orbital period of 112 days, at 0.409 AU from its star, discovered in 2015 via transit. At least one planet may receive an Earth-like flux of starlight, placing this system on the short list of potentially habitable worlds worth detailed atmospheric study. Kepler-442 b circles its star within the inner habitable zone. At 1.3 Earth radii, Kepler-442 b is a compact world comparable in size to rocky planets in our Solar System.
