Kepler-38 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.94 solar masses, 5,623 K, 1.75 solar radii), 1,175 light-years from Earth. Kepler-38 b is one of the smaller circumbinary planets, orbiting just outside the region where a binary's gravity destabilizes planets. Kepler-38 b is a 0.38-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 106 days, at 0.463 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 475 K, discovered in 2012 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry. Kepler-38 b circles its star within the inner habitable zone.
