Kepler-34 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 1.05 solar masses, 5,913 K, 1.16 solar radii), 1,801 light-years from Earth. Kepler-34 b is a circumbinary giant orbiting a pair of Sun-like stars, a Tatooine planet around two solar-type hosts. Kepler-34 b is a 0.22-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 289 days, at 1.090 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.18), discovered in 2011 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry. The planet's marked eccentricity suggests past scattering events or perturbations from unseen companions.
