Kepler-1661 is an orange K-type dwarf (about 0.84 solar masses, 5,100 K, 0.76 solar radii), 411 light-years from Earth. Kepler-1661 b is a 0.05-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 175 days, at 0.633 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 243 K, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.06), discovered in 2020 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry. Kepler-1661 b circles its star within the inner habitable zone.
