Kepler-1647 is a Sun-like F-type star (about 1.22 solar masses, 6,210 K, 1.79 solar radii), 1,212 light-years from Earth. Kepler-1647 b is a gas giant on the longest circumbinary orbit found by Kepler, near the habitable zone of its two stars. Kepler-1647 b is a 1.52-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 3.03 years, at 2.720 AU from its star, on an eccentric orbit (e ≈ 0.06), discovered in 2016 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry. Kepler-1647 b circles in the outer system, comparable to the Jupiter region.
