K2-417 is a cool M-dwarf (about 0.57 solar masses, 3,861 K, 0.58 solar radii), 94.0 light-years from Earth. K2-417 b is a 2.20-Jupiter-mass companion, with an orbital period of 6.5 days, at 0.063 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 558 K, discovered in 2023 via transit. The inner world is a hot Jupiter — a gas giant hugging its star at a fraction of Mercury's distance — a class that forced astronomers to rethink how giant planets form and migrate inward. K2-417 b orbits well inside Earth's distance from the Sun.
