K2-222 is a Sun-like G-type star (about 0.94 solar masses, 5,942 K, 1.07 solar radii), 101 light-years from Earth. K2-222 b is a 7.5-Earth-mass planet, with an orbital period of 15.4 days, at 0.119 AU from its star, and an equilibrium temperature near 803 K, discovered in 2018 via transit. The planet was found when it crossed the face of its star, producing periodic dips in brightness that reveal its size and orbital period to space-based photometry. K2-222 b orbits well inside Earth's distance from the Sun.
